How to Order Prescription Glasses for Toddlers

The process begins with a current, valid prescription from your child's pediatric eye doctor. You will need to have the sphere, cylinder, axis, and pupillary distance (PD) ready. It’s worth noting that PD is sometimes omitted from toddler-specific prescriptions—if yours doesn't include it, we recommend contacting the prescribing doctor or using our specialized virtual PD measurement tool as a helpful starting guide. For very young children, an accurate PD is vital because the optical centres of the lenses need to align precisely with your child's pupils to provide the clearest possible vision.

We strongly suggest choosing your frame before you commit to ordering lenses. Our free Home Try-On Kit is especially useful for toddlers; it lets you test 5 different frames at home to see which shape and color sits best on your child's face before you spend money on prescription lenses. Our toddler frames fit approximately ages 2–4, featuring a frame width of roughly 126–131mm. We encourage parents to use our size guide to confirm the fit before finalizing. If your child is on the smaller or larger end of the spectrum, our specialized baby or junior frames may actually be a better match.

Once you have chosen your perfect frame, you simply select your lens type at checkout. Standard single vision lenses are the most common choice for toddlers. However, if your child uses screens or educational tablets regularly, adding blue light filtering lenses can help reduce digital eye strain. Every order is hand-built with care in our San Diego facility and typically ships within 5–7 business days. If you're in a hurry, rush processing is available. To ensure they stay in place, every pair of toddler prescription glasses ships with an adjustable strap to help keep the glasses secured during a busy day of play.

Why Toddler Prescription Glasses Need to Be Different

Getting a toddler to wear prescription glasses is hard enough without the frames breaking within a single week of use. Yet, that is the daily reality for most families—standard children's optical frames are almost always made from rigid acetate or metal that snaps at the bridge, bends out of shape at the temples, and scratches at the lenses faster than any child should be able to manage. For a toddler who is supposed to be wearing their glasses every waking hour to support their growing eyes, a broken frame isn't just an inconvenience or a financial burden. It represents a genuine gap in their critical visual development.

Early intervention for vision problems in toddlers is absolutely critical. Conditions like amblyopia (commonly known as lazy eye) and strabismus (eye turn) respond best to correction as early as possible in a child's life. The window for effective treatment is most significant in these first few years—which means that consistent, daily wear of properly fitted toddler prescription glasses is simply not optional. Frames that break easily, fit poorly, or are physically uncomfortable to wear represent a real developmental risk because a child will naturally resist wearing them.

Roshambo toddler prescription glasses are designed specifically for this unique age and this specific challenge. Our virtually unbreakable Italian frame material is engineered to flex and bend without snapping—these are the same durable frames that successfully survive being sat on, stepped on, thrown across rooms, and even chewed on during playtime. Every single pair is custom-built with your child's specific prescription in our specialized San Diego facility. Best of all, they are backed by our signature damage replacement guarantee, meaning we’ve got your back if the unthinkable happens. It’s eyewear built to keep up with your toddler’s life, not hold them back.
