When shopping around, the most important factor is the UV protection rating. Look explicitly for 100% UVA, UVB, and UVC protection — not just a category rating or a vague 'UV protection' claim. UVC protection is often omitted from cheaper sunglasses, but reflected UVC from surfaces like snow, sand, and water is a meaningful exposure risk for active children. Frame material is the second key factor. Polycarbonate and rigid acetate snap under pressure — the exact pressure a child's daily life applies to their glasses. For fit, our junior frame suits most children ages 5–10 with a frame width of approximately 131–136mm. Kids at the younger end of the range or with narrower faces may fit better in our toddler size; older or wider-faced kids may be better served by our teen frames. Our size chart includes guidance by age and face width so you can find the perfect fit. Finally, polarized lenses are strongly recommended for children who spend time near water, on the beach, or playing sport — the glare reduction makes the glasses genuinely more comfortable to wear, which means children keep them on instead of ripping them off!

Children's eyes transmit up to 70% more UV radiation to the retina than adult eyes do — and the damage is cumulative, irreversible, and begins the first time a child steps outside without eye protection. School-age children spend more time outdoors than almost any other age group, between recess, sport, and after-school activities. This is the window where UV exposure is highest and where quality eye protection makes the most difference.

The problem with most kids sunglasses is that they don't survive being worn by actual children. Rigid plastic frames snap at the bridge. Lens coatings scratch off within months.
